HUNNYPOT RADIO #266 RECAP

Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew once again delivered an outstanding show for all who attended The Mint LA and/or listened live online. Johnnie kicked off the 266th radio show with a smokin' set featuring gems from Oliver Tank, Brøthers, Here We Go Magic, Peachcake, Kasey K., The Cataracs, 5150 Squad and much more.

Our special guest of the night was none other than 25+ year music industry veteran, Andy Ross (Cutting Edge Group). Andy prepared an exceptional set that paid tribute to the punk years or "Thatcher Years" that shaped and pioneered the early punk music scene in Britain. Andy's set was loaded with classics from Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Clash, Jilted John, The Smiths, The Specials, and Elvis Costello. Be sure to check out the entire interview/dj set with Andy Ross HERE.

The first live performers of the night were LA based indie-pop duo, Blazing Hips. Playing only their second official show together, the boys came out with a groovy edged, retro pop set that featured their standout singles "The Wolf" and "Cheetah" a quirky uptempo synth-pop, dance gem. Be sure to stay tuned for more shows and check out their singles which are available at Bandcamp with the "name your price" download feature.

Our second performer of the night was LA based indie rock, singer-songwriter, Inch Chua. Quickly establishing herself as one of the must-see acts in the LA scene, Inch and her extremely talented band completely stole the show; taking it to a whole new level. Inch's guitar skills and vocals were explosive, especially while premiering new material from her forthcoming sophmore album, due for release later this year. Be sure to stay tuned to Inch Chua on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest happenings.

Coming back for an encore performance was none other than LA based (London bound) sister DJ duo, Le Twist. This was a very special performance, as it was Le Twist's final LA show before they treked across the pond to London town. It was the perfect send off for the girls who prepared an exposive dance set loaded with many of today's top hip hop, trap, pop, house and electro bangers. Briana and Dani will be hugely missed, but we wish them all the best on their musical dance journey. Be sure to stayed up-to-date on all of Le Twist's latest dance mixes at http://mixcloud.com/LeTwistLA and follow them on Twitter.

Officially closing out the night was Hunnypot fav and LA based (via Chicago) MC/producer, E-Train. Joining us for a brief exclusive performance, E-Train and Blingstein premiered 2 new unreleased trap bangers that we can expect to be dropping very soon. Until then be sure to check out E-Train's music at http://soundcloud.com/etrainmusic and his video for "Glow So Hard".

Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you!

BLAZING HIPS: Blazing Hips is an indie-pop duo from Los Angeles with a curious fixation on the animal kingdom. Formed in 2013, The group has already produced two fauna-pop favorites; “Wolf” and “Cheetah” Employing a veritable zoo of sounds- fuzzy vocals, groovy bass, bombastically retro synths, drum machines and tambourines, Blazing Hips makes 4-minutes-and-under safaris into the jungle of retro edged pop, emerging as a final earworm chorus brings things to an almost too-soon close. Blazing Hips is Nicholas Tashjian and Kelvin Stewart. Nick goes to bed at a reasonable hour and always wears comfortable shoes. Kelvin likes weak tea, saltines, and a warm bath. Both can be found at Blazing Hips shows around the LA area, or working on forthcoming releases.

INCH CHUA: Born and raised in a colourful family of theatre pedigree in Singapore, Inch was always destined for the performing arts. She learnt the guitar and started songwriting while enrolled at fine arts school. In 2009, Inch gained the attention of music critics with the release of her debut EP, The Bedroom - a collection of playfully delightful melodies. The success of The Bedroom opened the door to her first invitation to SXSW Music Festival in 2010.

Since then, Inch played at The Canadian Music Festival and again at SXSW in 2012, opened for The Like, Katy Perry, Macy Gray and Vampire Weekend, performed at Asia’s key festivals MIDI (Beijing, China), Mosaic (Singapore), Baybeats (Singapore), Music Matters (Singapore) & TEDxWomen (Washington DC). Following The Bedroom, Inch released Peace, Love & Mistletoe in December 2009; and an acclaimed full-length album Wallflower in 2010.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Inch is working on her sophomore album Bumfuzzle; a work which has had her ruminating on coming of age and penning rawer, darker material.

HUNNYPOT RADIO #245 RECAP

We started our Hunnypot Radio show with a bang at The Central: SAPC in Santa Monica last week and it was packed with some serious entertainment! Huge thank you's to everyone who made it out, and to everyone who was a part of making it happen, it was a quite the success!

To get things started, Hot Tub Johnnie had a killer set of jams lined up that included music from The XX, Lil Debbie & Riff Raff, T.I., Brisco, Tyga, Talib Kweli, E-40 and many others. All super current tracks that y'all should check out! Also featured in Hot Tubs' set were 2 brand new cuts by our first performer of the night, electric-indie-rock group Fire in the Hamptons, who previewed their infectious track “Stargazer" and the toe-tapping "Humanimal" that was stuck in our heads for days.

Our industry guest DJ of the night was Music Supervisor at mOcean, Sanaz Lavaedian. This was Sanaz’s first time as a guest DJ, and might we say that she really brought her A-game. She had us jamming on the dance floor with tracks from P.O.S., Sebastian Tellier, The Shoes, Father John Misty, and more. Props, Sanaz, props.

Finally, to close out the radio segment of the show, DJ Boom Shack came in with a slammin' set featuring hot new tracks from Meg Myers, Retro Su$hi, Pheo, Skizzy Mars, Rebecca & Fiona and much more.

Kicking off the live performance half of the show were LA based electric-indie rockers Fire in the Hamptons. Lead vocalist Zack Hampton and co-conspirator Bert Selen put on a show to remember and had the crowd in a sweaty frenzy. If you have the chance to see Fire in the Hamptons, take it, we promise you will not be disappointed.

Hunnypot favorites, LA based FiNaTTicZ, brought out the ratchet in all of us during the second set of our live show. The FiNaTTicZ ignited a frenzy on the dance floor with their contagious beats. The Central was burning up as the boys performed their hit single “Don’t Drop That” aka “The Thun Thun Song” that is sure to take them to the top. They had us dancing, clapping, stomping and getting wild on the dance floor. If you haven't seen these cats live – you’re seriously missing out.

Rounding out our performances were LA urban, hip-hop trio K.O.T. - Kingz of Tomaro. This 3 piece collective brought some serious heat to the stage when they performed their current single “Turn Out the Lights”. The group is made up of Smoove, Paybahk and Zone, all of whom have their own solo careers, but have come together to represent the true spirit of west coast hip-hop. Be on the lookout for their debut albm, “Three Kingz” that will be released at the end of 2012 on ChopperHead Mama Records.

Our 245th Hunnypot Radio Sing-A-Long was "That's The Way (I Like It)" by K.C. & The Sunshine Band!

CAREY APPEL: Growing up in an entertainment family on the west side of Los Angeles, Carey Appel’s love of music began at age 3. “Such a grown up voice for such a little girl” was most often heard. Grammar and high school musicals abounded until a coach skipped over her for “Fiddler on the Roof.” Carey gave up music during college, but after a personal life-changing event, this captivating performer and soulful storyteller returned to the music community in 2011 with her first album, “New Favorites.” Her company, aptly named Heather Road for the street she grew up on, produced the album of aurally seductive vocals influenced by Melody Gardot, Patti Griffin, Cheryl Wheeler and Judith Owen.
She has since teamed up with artist and producer Lisa Nemzo (Dream Wild Records), who is producing her newest album “House of Cards” - featuring original songs written by Carey and co-writer Marc Platt. Demonstrating Carey’s innate passion and musical finesse, this new series is a collection of diverse and riveting acoustic singer/songwriter and rock arrangements with a sophisticated folk flair.

TRABANTS: Trabants is a surf band from Boston, MA featuring a rotating line up of assorted musicians who find their muse in the dusty bins of 60's instrumental surf, lounge, and soundtrack albums from around the globe
Having come together in 2010, the band has evolved from an experiment in vintage mono recording that snowballed into their debut full-length album titled, "Highwire Surfing." Trabants soon after found themselves playing to thousands as part of Boston's First Night Celebration, selling out their headlining record release show one month later and garnering an Independent Music Award nomination for Best Instrumental album. With shifting moods from beach party a go-go to dusty western cowboy sunsets to martini lounge leisure, Trabants prides itself on inventive arrangements recorded in vintage fashion to transport the listener into their world.

ALPHA/BETA: Alpha/Beta is the singing and songwriting duo of Brett Anderson (The Donnas, The Stripminers), and Asa Ferry (Kind Hearts and Coronets, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti). Brett and Asa met earlier this year at Zorthian Ranch and decided to start their own cult. They wrote and recorded their Debut album, Fencing the Sparrows in just three short months and are already working on songs for their next album.

NICK PRATT: Nick Pratt is breaking the mold of Texas rap. As a Fort Worth native, Pratt’s music is Texas home-grown, but his southern swagger is blended with a typically northern substance. Pratt’s music maintains a classic country grammar, while his lyricism is that of a socially conscious jester. His mix of humor and absolute realism integrates the realities of a young scholar with rapid wordplay and knowledge beyond his years. He has gained performance experience by opening for rap artist like Wale, Wiz Khalifa, Tanya Morgan, Young Scolla, Dom Kennedy, and Pac Div, and received both national and international press across the board, including features on XXLMag.com, Ozone Magazine (online), AllHipHop.com, Black Entertainment Television’s “The Deal” and the “Under The Radar” column in JENESIS Magazine.
To the top is the next level for Nick Pratt, and learning how to overcome newfound challenges will help him separate himself from his competitors. Middle Finger Music, which will be releasing near the end of 2011, will help Nick continue to establish himself in the industry and showcase a nearly perfected craft.

Having come together in 2010, the band has evolved from an experiment in vintage mono recording that snowballed into their debut full-length album titled, “Highwire Surfing.” Trabants soon after found themselves playing to thousands as part of Boston’s First Night Celebration, selling out their headlining record release show one month later and garnering an Independent Music Award nomination for Best Instrumental album. With shifting moods from beach party a go-go to dusty western cowboy sunsets to martini lounge leisure, Trabants prides itself on inventive arrangements recorded in vintage fashion to transport the listener into their world.

ALPHA/BETA: Alpha/Beta is the singing and songwriting duo of Brett Anderson (The Donnas, The Stripminers), and Asa Ferry (Kind Hearts and Coronets, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti).

HUNNYPOT RADIO #264 RECAP

Last week was our debut show at The Mint LA and it was a packed house as we popped the cherry for our new Hot Tub home. Kicking the show off with a smokin' new housewarming set was Hot Tub Johnnie who played current singles from Raquel Rodriguez, Casey K., SOLARDRIVE, The Strypes, Bonhom, Hanni El Khatib, Here We Go Magic, What's Eating Gilbert (Live on HPR 6/17) and much more.

Coming back for her second Hunnypot DJ set was music supervisor/tastemaker, Sanaz Lavaedian of mOcean (nominated for 6 Golden Trailer Awards 2013). Sanaz is the go to gal for all things music on many of today's huge box office trailers like Avengers, Hangover III, Wreck It Ralph, The Call and many more. With that said Sanaz gave a a little taste of some of her top artists this year so far which included cuts from P.O.S. w/ Bon Iver, Hanni El Khatib, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Glass Animals, James Blake and much more. You can listen to her whole set with playlist HERE.

Setting off the first Hunnypot live performance at The Mint was none other than LA favorite Cisco Adler. Before taking the stage Cisco sat down for a brief interview with Hot Tub Johnnie as they reminisced on the early days of Cisco and coming up with Mickey Avalon. And bringing it full circle Johnnie played Cisco & Mickey's "Jane Fonda" and also dropped "Boom Boom Boom" the new single off Cisco Adler's latest album Aloha. Cisco took the stage and it was smooth sailing from there on as he jammed out with his acoustic guitar backed with soothing beach infused beats. The highlights of the night were the standout tracks "Medicine", "Ur The One" and "Waking Up In Paradise" which turned the Mint into a beach party. Be sure to check out this stellar performance HERE. Also, head over to http://bananabeat.com for all the latest from Cisco including his new One Way EP with Tayyib Ali. Big s/o to KelleeMack PR for setting everything up!!

Sailing into our next set for their first ever live performance was LA based duo and HP favorites Bonhom. Preparing for the release of their debut EP Top of the World, the boys cruised through a set featuring the dream-pop singles "Live For Now", "Free My Love" and electro alt rocker "Animal". Stay tuned to http://bohommusic.com for all the latest Bonhom updates.

Hunnypot's own and LA electro pop, funk, brother duo, Das Tapes joined us for another classic live performance as they gear up for the release of their forthcoming EP Supreme due out on May 28th. The boys displayed an exceptional live set featuring party favorite "This Party", the Prince cover "Kiss", "Dynomite" and more. Check out the entire performance HERE. And stay tuned to http://dastapes.com for all the latest.

Closing out the night was none other than LA based singer-songwriter, Anna Rose. Ms. Rose took to the stage and performed a laid back set of soothing r&b pop jams. Anna is currently preparing to release her new EP and putting the finishing touches on the lead single/video which will be out soon. Head over to https://facebook.com/Menagamiss for all the latest.

All in all, it was another amazing show put together by the incredible Hunnypot Unlimited team. Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, performed, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you!
